The 5 Things You Never Say to Your Best Friend
Sure, you tell each other everything, but there are some things that should never be said lest the friendship be put on shaky ground.
  1. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
This is the equivalent of saying “I don’t trust you to value, respect, and understand my feelings.” which is quite possibly the worst thing you could ever say to your best friend. The mark of a true best friend is that he/she is someone you can tell anything and everything to without worrying about being judged and/or ostracized for speaking your mind. If you find yourself saying this to your best friend, you should probably start questioning the friendship.

2. “I’m busy.”

Everyone has their own lives to live and problems to deal with, but your best friend is the one person who will be there for you no matter what his/her schedule looks like. We make time for the things and people who are important to us, and if we can’t make time for our best friends, well, maybe they aren’t our best friends.

3. “I’m jealous of you.”

Typically, this one is spoken with actions rather than words, and is probably the most damaging to the friendship. Best friends love each other enough to share in each other’s successes, gains, and happiness. If you find yourself envying or feeling jealous of your best friend, it’s not a good sign. This isn’t to say that best friends can’t want the same things (because they often do), but it should never feel like a competition.

4. “I’m fine.”

Who are you kidding? Everyone knows this line means the exact opposite of fine, ESPECIALLY your best friend. For the same reasons as the first phrase on this list, you shouldn’t lie to your best friend. Especially with a lie as completely see-through as this one.

5. “Nothing.”

This one can be taken to mean two separate things. On one hand, this should never be used as a response to a question asked by your best friend. Like number 4 on the list, this is a lie that is completely see-through, and should never be spoken to your best friend. Secondly, this could be interpreted literally without quotation marks because you should be able to talk to your best friend, not stay silent. Remember, your best friend is the person you can tell everything to. If you find yourself keeping secrets from your best friend, you have some serious evaluating to do.
