5 Ways to Live More Honestly
Get back to who you are by giving yourself these five things to figure out exactly who that is.

  1. Ask yourself questions.
Play the “why” game with yourself the next time you find yourself wanting or needing something. You want something? Why do you want that something? If your reasons for wanting something have more to do with other people or circumstances than your own genuine want, it’s time to reevaluate your wish. Be honest with yourself.

2. Tell the truth.
This is simple and so very, very obvious, but if you can’t tell the truth, how can you expect to live an honest life? Telling the truth doesn’t necessarily require you to divulge all your deepest secrets or speak your mind when you should probably stay silent. It does, however, require you to stay true to yourself, and to give others the courtesy of honesty when it’s kindest to do so.

3. Find your passion.
What is your passion? What would you do every day if you had the chance? Find your passion, and then make the time to do more of it. You don’t have to make a career out of it (though if you want to, go for it), but make sure you pursue it as if your life depended on it. Because if you truly want to live honestly, it kinda does.

4. Introspect.
I know it’s scary, but if you really want to get to know yourself, you’re going to have to actually sit and get to know yourself. Find out who you are when nobody’s looking. What do you wear when you don’t have any plans or obligations? How do you fill your time? What do you eat? Spend a day observing and getting to know yourself.

5. Surround yourself with honest people.
Whether we realize it or not, the people we surround ourselves with have a big influence over our actions and behavior. Therefore, learning to live more honestly can be as simple as surrounding yourself with people who do just that… and separating yourself from the people who don’t.
