Letter to a Stranger
A stranger is a friend I haven’t met yet.

Dear Stranger,

I don’t know who you are, or where you’re from, or even whether or not you can read this letter, but I do know that if we met, we would be friends. I see the best in people, even when they show me their worst. That doesn’t mean I stay friends with everyone forever. It does, however, mean that our friendship is a guarantee, if only temporary.

But everything is temporary. I hope you know that. In my experience, all of the best people do, and because they know, they embrace life more. I like people who aren’t afraid of life. Mostly because it’s so easy to be afraid. It’s much harder to be brave.

Am I sounding too philosophical? That’s kinda how I am. I apologize if it’s too much. But I just believe everything has a meaning, and I love to find out what those meanings are. I believe we are strangers for a reason. Perhaps you don’t have anything to teach me? Or I you? I believe the people we meet in our lives, however briefly, serve a purpose. We’re all connected, I think, so we can all share with each other the valuable lessons we have learned from our lives. Even if we don’t realize we’re learning, we are. Each day brings something new.

I hope you find something beautiful in every day, and I hope you are surrounded by love. A life of love is the only one worth living, and thankfully love comes in many different forms. Whatever you’re going through, I hope you’ll always remember this. There is more than one way to give and accept love, and I hope you embrace every single one.

I hope you listen a lot more than you talk so the words you speak will mean something. I hope you give hugs more often than advice because a gesture of comfort will always do more good than a rational opinion. I hope you make time for the people you love, and work to spend money on experiences with those people rather than material possessions. I hope you look both ways before you cross the street, and take care of yourself. I hope you follow your dreams, and I hope all your dreams come true, no matter how long it takes. I hope you don’t give up.

I have so much hope for you, stranger, my friend I haven’t yet met. And maybe I won’t meet you in this life or even in the next. But that’s okay. My hope for you remains.

You deserve it.

Love,

Kayla
