By the Moments
Make every day the best day of your life.

“What was the best day of your life?” he asked as we were waiting for our food to arrive.

My answer surprised me, mostly because I realized I didn’t have one. Most people can describe a particular day or moment when they were fully aware that they were alive and life was beautiful. But for me, every day is like that. I wake up with that realization, and I fall asleep with that contentment. I don’t just have one day or one moment that mattered above all the rest. Every second I’m alive matters to me.

“I don’t know,” I said. “Every day is the best day of my life.”

Granted, I didn’t used to think this way. A couple years ago, I was faced with a difficult choice, and my decision completely changed my perception of life. I had hit rock bottom, and without some serious reconstruction of self, there was going to be no way up.

But that’s the beauty of hitting rock bottom. When you’ve finally hit the lowest possible point in your life, you’re forced into reality, and reality is beautiful.

Reality exists in the moments.

Of course, not every moment is beautiful. There will be pain, sadness, and hurt. There will be heartbreak, disappointment, and self-doubt that will turn you into a black hole of negative energy. But if you let yourself feel when the moment comes, then it’s a guarantee the moment will pass.

It will pass and become something beautiful.

Without the painful moments, we wouldn’t be able to appreciate the joyful ones. We wouldn’t have anything to compare it to. Besides, it’s always much better to feel than to be numb. Feeling is what reminds us we are alive.

So live by the moments, and let yourself feel. Turn up your favorite song and dance. Even when it’s three o’clock in the morning and you have work the next day. Tap into the divine energy within you, and let everything go. Let go of the to-do list filled with all the things you’re told you should be doing, let go of the guilt, and listen to your heart. Open yourself up and connect with people. Love and live without fear.

Try to live every day as if it was your last because you never know if it could be. Make every day the best day of your life.

You deserve to live by the moments.
