Holiday Madness
Staying sane and true to yourself in this season of “should.”

The spirit of the holiday season is the spirit of giving.

We clear our schedules so we can give our time to the people we love, even if they live miles away. We clear our bank accounts so we can give gifts to everyone we know, and sometimes even the people we don’t. We clear our closets and bookshelves so we can give to the charities for those less fortunate.

We don’t think about ourselves, and thus we become easily overwhelmed.

I’ve always been an over-giver. An over-giver of my time, love, and anything and everything I possibly had to give. Year round. And this isn’t a bad thing.

But over-giving can easily become a bad thing when we forget to give to ourselves.

So this holiday season, escape the madness and remember to take time for yourself. Don’t engage in conversations that aren’t going to benefit you. Don’t stress yourself out with all the things you feel you should do or shouldn’t, and all the items you should give or shouldn’t. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do, and you don’t have to give more than you already have to offer.

This holiday season, take care of you.

Because only when we are taken care of ourselves can we truly take care of others.
