Letter for a Dancing Heart
Dear J.,

It’s almost been a whole year since the day we were introduced. I remember feeling both excited and nervous. Excited because I’d been hearing your name come up in conversations with my favorite person for weeks. Nervous because it was clear to me you already had his heart, and I was afraid that you would break it.

But you didn’t.

And as soon as you wrapped me in a hug after we were introduced, I knew you never would. I could tell you had a dancing heart.

A dancing heart is a heart that lives in joy. You know exactly how to cheer everyone up, and you do so every day. You might stress out sometimes, but you always bounce back to your bliss, spinning the world with the enormous amount of love you have to share. You are one of the most loving, caring, empathetic people I know. You know when someone is hurting, and you know just what to say to make the hurting go away. Whenever I’m feeling completely broken, I know you’ll be there to cheer me up with your wise words, empathetic understanding, and genuine care.

And I couldn’t ask for a better best friend.

You amaze me every day with your brilliance, your strength, and your dedication. There isn’t anything you can’t accomplish once you put your mind to it. I mean, you were the one who drove eighteen hours straight (or was it more?) during our trip to Vegas. Safely. Through the snow and the night on way less sleep than anyone should have to know.

But you did it. For you, it was worth it. You’re incredible like that.

And I can’t begin to express how happy I am to have you in my life. You have become such an important person in my life, and I can’t imagine a future without you in it. I mean, I am going to have your children, so I might as well take you up on your offer to live in your second house. You know, the one you’re going to build in your backyard for me so I never ever leave?

Or maybe I’ll just move into the house next door. Would that be close enough?

I suppose we still have plenty of time to discuss the details. But in the meantime, know that I love you and your dancing heart. Tremendously.

With love,
