Letter for a Playful Spirit

Dear J.,

You were one of the first friends I made when my family moved into our first real home in Corpus. You were the playful neighborhood kid who quickly became a part of my family where you’ve stayed ever since.

For a whole decade now, you have brought laughter and fun to my family’s household. You have the kind of energy that makes you a complete joy to be around. Wherever you are, you bring the fun with you.

But you also have your moments of seriousness. You aren’t afraid to feel, and seek advice when you need it. You own up to your mistakes, take responsibility for your actions, and do your best to always do the right thing. You are respectful of authority, and you make a great leader as well. You know how to stand in the center of a storm without losing your steady sense of the ground, and have often been the one to quiet the chaos when it seems most impossible.

With you, I have always been able to be myself. You were one of the first people to bring me out of my shell. I spent many years hiding from the world, sheltering myself from everything and everyone, but not you. I never had to hide from you, and I never wanted to. And for that I am most grateful.

I’m grateful to have you in my life, to be able to consider you a brother. You are an amazing person. You bring so much light to the world with your presence, with the essence of who you are, and I absolutely love you for it. I can’t wait to see where life takes you, and I hope you know you’ll always feel like home to me.

With love,

Kayla
