Satya: Truthfulness

Have you ever noticed how the most honest people are also the most attractive?

The energy created by choosing to be real has a magnetic quality to it.

That’s the beauty of satya.

Satya is the second yama given in the yoga sutras. It’s the guideline that reminds us to tell the truth because we are really only hurting ourselves when we lie.

Yes, the truth can be painful to bear sometimes. It’s not always roses and sunshine. Oftentimes, it’s ugly and brutal instead.

But through the practice of acceptance, the true beauty of the truth is able to come to light. Hidden underneath the ugliness and brutality is the simple beauty of what is, and it is through this state of reality that we eventually reach the Divine.

If you want to live your best life, practicing satya is a must. You have to be willing to own your truth, however difficult it may be. You must choose to be real, with others as much as with yourself.

Sit with a lie long enough, and it begins to feel uncomfortable. Sit with the truth long enough, and you’ll be set free.
So please,

tell the truth, tell the truth, tell the truth!
