Tapas: Self-Discipline

For those of you who have been keeping up with this blog, you may have noticed my lack of tapas recently.

I could make my usual litany of excuses, but the practice of tapas means transcending excuses, so I won’t.

Tapas is the dedication to your purpose. It is the steadfastness of showing up fully in every area of your life. It is doing what is good for you instead of what is easy for you. It is choosing committment over convenience.

This is obviously an area of my life I struggle with. For most of my life, I have definitely chosen convenience over commitment, and laziness over dedication. But now that I have made a true commitment to myself, I’ve been really working my hardest to practice tapas, even as the excuses pile up around me and clutter my head and life.

Tapas requires your full attention and presence. It is the ultimate act of respect. The greatest thing you can ever do in your life is show up. Show up for it all. Be here now. In every moment.

Then watch how quickly your life transforms.
